Free (as in speech) Software
This page is really a combination of
Free (as in free speech) Software,
Open Source Software, and anti-microsoft content…
'Linux' is a mascot fronting these much more serious issues, linux itself is really nothing more than the kernel (~10%) of the
GNU operating system.

Linux @ Home & Work
...And ofcourse I use linux and the gnu tools exclusively at home and at work. (Ok ok i might use a windows system to investigate windows-only bugs).
Currently I'm a huge
Gentoo fan. Gentoo distributions require you to compile everything on your machine, kernel, operating tools, compiler, software, drivers, the lot. It's package management system is IMHO alot easier to use than RedHat's RPM system, and allows configuration of compile time options and USE flags which specify what components and plugins get included onto your machine. The result of all this is a much more streamlined setup optimised for your machine and your usage.
Beyond Gentoo, I use the latest gentoo-sources kernel. Using the
wonderful world of the 2.6 linux kernel has some huge performance improvements, and with Udev and ALSA makes life alot smoother.
At home our machine (an overclocked Athlon) is our complete home entertainment system. It's the (Cable) TV, and DVD & CD & Mp3 player, with surround sound. We also use Gnutella to download all the music and dvds we want and to share what we have. All these things were running on our previous WindowsXP system (2 years ago) but have become more stable and simplier to use and customise on Linux & GNU.
