How to listen to music on linux.

Help on listening to music on linux.
These programs are found under the Applications > Media (Applikasjoner >Lyd og Bilde) menu

      Listening to internet radio stations

RealPlayer is the program to use. It normally has the icon rp. Once it is open, choose File->Open location… and type the URL (web address) of the internet radio station. These URLs often end in .ram but it could be .ogg as well.
For example, TripleJ's URL is >>http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/triplej.ram RealPlayer remembers the radio stations you've listened to and they'll appear in the File menu so you don't have to enter the URL in again.

      Listening to local music files

Rhythmbox is the program to use. It normally has the icon rb. It takes some time to start up because it needs to reads all the files in the music folder to generate the lists of artists, albums, and genres. Once it has started simply choose which artists and albums to would like to listen to. Use the control key to select multiple items in a list.
Because the music folder is locationed on the server downstairs when the music is playing it can sometimes pause while the wireless network re-connects.

      Listening to CDs

Gnome's CD-Player (CD-spiller) is the program to use. It normally has the icon cd-play. Once the program has started press the 'Eject' button to determine which cd/dvd drive the cd should be inserted into.
